Dancalegria was founded by Willem Engel. He was born and raised in the Netherlands, where he is completing his PhD in Nanotechnology and Mass Spectrometry. His love for Brazil started in 1999 with Capoeira. After following all levels salsa, he discovered Zouk in 2003. The wavy hairs and the fluent movements fascinated him and this is the dance that he now devotes his life to. he began teaching zouk at Dos Bailadores, together with Debbie van Vliet. In his lessons he pays a lot of attention to dance techniques, but also try to offer the dance in such a way that there is a possibility for various styles. "There is not just one good style, but as many styles as there are people that dance." The past 4 years Willem has been teaching in many cities in the Netherlands. He has expanded his view on dancing and wants to share this with the world. Internationally he has been very active as well teaching and performing all over the world. Willem is back in the Netherlands after embarking on his 5th North American Zouk tour in 2009-2010. This tour took him to the United states; New York, Knoxville, DC, Denver, Reno and Canada; Montreal. Where he taught and performed with Kim Rottier(Australia), Luciana Guinle(Brazil) and Sindali Sandoval(Mexico)
