Dance in general
Moving without going anywhere. It might be considered a display of physical fitness and a mating ritual This view would wrong the dance experience. The former statements are true, but there is so much more to it.
With dancing i can let go of my mind and intellect that try to control and understand everything around me. In dancing the world just is; it needs no understanding. It also gives an immediate feeling of happiness, letting go of frustrations build up during other activities. Especially in a partner dance in which you cannot do things randomly, one must surrender its control and let the music guide you. The music has a structure and story of itself. When you both listen carefully you communicate through the music, it will become logical to do something at that particular instance because the music asks it.
Often I am asked what a guy should do when the woman does not listen to his leading. The question I always give them back is have you listened to the music, have you listened to your woman? A common reply is, but I am the man i am the leader! WRONG, the only thing what is the leader is the music. Both man and woman play their part on the music. Leading is not controlling but ASKING her to follow your idea or interpretation. As a man you are given the unique opportunity to be the creator of a dance, a dance in which the woman is your inspiration, your brush, your pen, your voice. The idea is to let her shine on the music, not to impress her with your moves or skills (that will be the effect not the objective!). Only if you understood that and mastered the skills needed to accomplish it, you can think of shining yourself.
What is Zouk?
Apart from the most sensual of the Brazilian dances?
Zouk, also known as lambada zouk or lambazouk, is a couple's dance that finds its origins in the Brazilian Lambada dance that was so popular in the 1990s. It is most often danced on zouk music, a popular genre in the French Caribbean, the Cape Verdean Islands, Brazil and Angola. In these places, most often people dance zouk in a cheek-to-cheek fashion, with small movements and close together. But the style that developed in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Seguro is much more explosive and wild. Even though the dance is not yet as popular as salsa, Brazilian zouk is rapidly taking over the world. From Rio de Janeiro it spread to Amsterdam, Brisbane, London, Barcelona, New York, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Prague and Tel Aviv
